To now stand alongside them after reengaging with the industry feels like a dream come true. This is real. This is my life. I take one step at a time, I'm in no competition or rush."
Fascinated by the craft of blending and distilling American whiskey, Sonja D. Hunt returned to the spirits industry in 2019 after a more than twenty-year hiatus. Her early introduction to the field began in hospitality, where she worked as a mixologist and hotel and restaurant manager experience that laid the foundation for her disciplined, guest centered approach to spirits.
Known within the distilled spirits community as So Dram Good, Sonja pursued an immersive reentry into the industry, working closely with some of the most awarded whiskey brands and production teams in the country. Through a combination of hands-on training and formal education, she has earned recognition as a skilled blender and student distiller, Spirits Competition Judge for ACSA and ASCOT Awards, Brand Ambassador, Sensory Advisor, DEI Consultant, Certified Executive Bourbon Steward and Trainer, Squire, and private tastings host. Through her longstanding activism, dedication, and hard work, Sonja volunteers nationwide and was commissioned as a Kentucky Colonel in July 2025 in recognition of her significant contributions to the spirits industry and the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
As a rising force in the industry, Sonja has quickly captured the attention of both emerging and legacy brands seeking a fresh, skilled, and authentic perspective. Dubbed an “expert palate” by Master Distiller and Blender Marianne Eaves, Sonja is driven by a mission that extends beyond spirit creation. She is deeply committed to education, sensory exploration, and storytelling believing whiskey to be not merely a drink, but an art form that evokes emotion, preserves history, and helps establish legacy. A legacy she wishes to cement and leave for her four sons.
Never one to remain static, Sonja continually challenges convention through thoughtful experimentation and creative risk-taking. Her commitment to innovation has earned respect from industry peers and consumers alike.
